My trip to Malawi is associated with The Malawi Project, Inc., a 501c3 humanitarian aid organization. The Project had humble beginnings in the late 1990s and has grown to become a central network of various assistance groups, resources and volunteers directed to help the people of Malawi.
One way this group sets itself apart is that their central mission is focused on the Malawi people being self-sufficient. Help comes in the form of immediate assistance (food, medical supplies, nurses) then evolves into schools, medical training programs, AIDS education, irrigation engineering and manufacturing of nutritious meals. The Project's programs include Agricultural Assistance, Orphan Care, Food & Clothing, Education and Medical Programs.
You can read more about these programs and topics, including many personal stories, on their Web site: http://www.malawiproject.org/.
